Paying homage to Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva

Paying homage to Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva

Buddhist temples

The ceremony to honor Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva on the 19th day of the 9th lunar month is the day when Avalokiteśvara became a monk, marking the event that Bodhisattva left secular life to practice. This is one of three important spiritual days in his year, besides the day of his birth (February 19) and the day of enlightenment (June 19).

Meaning and purpose Reminder of compassion: An opportunity for Buddhists to remember and follow Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara's compassionate vow to save sentient beings. Encourage the practice of good deeds: Encourage people to work towards tolerance, altruism, practice vegetarianism, do good deeds, pray for peace, health and luck. Strengthening faith: Helps Buddhists strengthen their faith and spirit of practice.

Activities during the astral day Performing rituals: Pagodas often hold worshiping ceremonies, chant sutras, and chant the name of Avalokiteshvara to pray. Prepare the vegetarian tray: The offering trays need to be pure and solemn, including incense, lamps, fresh flowers, fruits and vegetarian items. Cultivating virtue: An opportunity for each person to reflect on themselves, practice compassion, understanding and sharing.
