Ba Pagoda Festival - Nuoc Man Port

Ba Pagoda (Tuy Phuoc, Binh Dinh)

Binh Dinh: Ba Pagoda Festival - Nuoc Man Port is a National Intangible Heritage Ba Pagoda - Nuoc Man Port Thi Festival is one of the large-scale and early traditional festivals in Binh Dinh. Every year, the festival is held for 3 days (from the last day of the first lunar month to the 2nd day of the second lunar month). Ba Pagoda was ranked as a provincial historical-cultural relic by the Provincial People's Committee in 2010. The festival takes place with many rituals and beliefs typical of the ancient port area. Among them are rituals to pray for peace, offerings to grandmothers, and offerings to the gods who have blessed the seafarers, traders, protected the spiritual and material lives of the people, and protected the fertility of mothers and children. The festival also includes a ceremony to honor the gods with a colorful procession - a procession of symbols of fish, waterfowl, soup, and rot with images such as people cutting down trees and clearing mangrove forests; Farmers broke their fields and built banks; fishermen casting nets; cattle breeders... to commemorate and honor the enlightenment of our ancestors who turned the coastal swamp into a bustling commercial port city. The festival took place with many folk games, Choi card playing, and Tuong singing, attracting a large number of people and tourists to participate. According to historical records, Nuoc Man Port was born in the early 17th century and is a large, important and busy port in Dang Trong for trade and cultural exchange between Binh Dinh and countries in the region and the world. This place forms many bustling shopping streets with all kinds of goods from the lowlands to the uplands, where ships and foreign merchants often come to visit, trade, and exchange goods, marking the prosperous urban life of the ancient Quy Nhon government and the whole of Dang Trong. Nuoc Man is also the location where the process of researching the Latinization of Vietnamese took place, making an important contribution to the creation of the National Language in Vietnam. Although it only existed for more than a century (from the beginning of the 17th century to the end of the 18th century), the culture of Nuoc Man Port really shined, demonstrating the talent of the residents of this land, distilling the essence, creating a unique cultural line along the line of history. Since 1610, when Nuoc Man Port entered a period of prosperity, Ba Pagoda was built. At first it was a simple temple to serve the religious needs of a group of people. They often come here to attend ceremonies, to express their gratitude to the Holy Mother Thien Hau for blessing them with a safe migration to a new land, and at the same time to pray for a prosperous and fulfilling life. Gradually, when they settled down, settled down, and prospered, Nuoc Man port town also became busy. A number of merchants contributed money and renovated the temple to make it more spacious and beautiful, from which the name "Ba Pagoda" was born and exists to this day. Ba Pagoda Festival - Nuoc Man Port was recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage according to Decision No. 1839/QD-BVHTTDL dated August 4, 2022. This is the fourth national intangible cultural heritage of Binh Dinh province to be registered, following Binh Dinh traditional martial arts, Binh Dinh opera singing and Binh Dinh bai choi art. Mr. Lam Hai Giang, Vice Chairman of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee, shared: The Ba Pagoda Festival - Nuoc Man Town Port was honored as a national intangible cultural heritage, contributing to raising awareness of the folk cultural value of this type of intangible cultural heritage. Affirming the role of the festival in the spiritual life of the local community, respecting the value of heritage in Binh Dinh, contributing to creating cultural diversity in the overall intangible cultural heritage values of Vietnam. This is both an honor, pride, and a great responsibility of the Party Committee, government and people of Binh Dinh province in general, and Tuy Phuoc district in particular. In the coming time, with efforts and responsibility, Tuy Phuoc district needs to coordinate with the Department of Culture and Sports of Binh Dinh and the residential community to continue to carry out the task of protecting and promoting the heritage of Ba Pagoda Festival - Nuoc Man Port.
