Traditional Tu Luong Xam Festival

From Luong Xam, Hai An

Traditional Tu Luong Xam Festival: A large-scale ceremony towards the origin Tu Luong Xam is located on a large, high land, in the Northeast of Nam Hai ward. The main side of the Relic faces east, overlooking Bach Dang seaport. Legend has it that in preparation for the Bach Dang battle in 938, Ngo Quyen chose this place as a place to store food and herbs, and as a headquarters to observe and command the historic Bach Dang battle. King Ngo Quyen chose a favorable position to directly command the construction of the stake yard, arrange forces, and organize ambushes ready to destroy the Southern Han invaders.  Tu Luong Xam, along with Phu Xa Temple and Phu Thuong Doan, is one of the three famous "spiritual words" of Hai An district. In Hai An district, there are currently 24 historical relics worshiping King Ngo Quyen and Tu Luong Xam. The national historical and cultural relic is honored as "Tu Ca" - the head place to worship King Ngo Quyen, a preserved historical evidence of a Bach Dang River battle that "resounded until thousands of years" with many great historical values left for posterity today. With cultural value and historical significance, Tu Luong Xam Relic was recognized by the Ministry of Culture and Information (now the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) as a National Historical and Cultural Relic in 1986, containing many contents related to the first Bach Dang victory in 938 of our army and people under the leadership of Ngo Quyen; considered a memorial to national hero Ngo Quyen - the founder of Vietnamese independence. According to history books, Tu Luong Xam was magnificently built in the Later Le dynasty and restored in the Nguyen dynasty. Therefore, all current architecture has the artistic style of the Nguyen Dynasty, only some architecture has the artistic style of the Le Dynasty. Looking at the whole picture, the temple has a closed, continuous "internal and foreign" layout. Located on a large, tall land with many ancient trees, on the base of Ngo Quyen's headquarters and warehouse to fight against the Nam Han invaders in the past. Not only the architecture, the antiques in the word will bring visitors different feelings every time they admire them. In the still preserved words, there are 3 Bach Dang stakes as evidence of the Bach Dang battle in 938. Up to now, Tu Luong Xam has preserved 25 main ordinations and more than 20 copied ordinations dating from 1522 to 1924. In those ordinations, many dynasties honored King Ngo Quyen as "The Most Highest Great King", "Ngo Vuong Thien Tu" and many beautiful words. On the left side of the expanded campus of Tu Luong Xam relic is the statue of King Ngo Quyen built in 2010 on a land area of 1,500 m2. The statue is built of Granite cast stone - covered with electrolytic copper, the total height of the statue and pedestal is 11.37m. The statue looks to the East, towards the Bach Dang estuary - where the historic Bach Dang battle took place in 938. The statue stands in a posture as if commanding the battle, the right hand points straight towards the Bach Dang estuary as if directing the battle, the left hand rests on the hilt of the sword. The construction of the statue of King Ngo Quyen has great significance for the people of Hai An district, it is a symbol of patriotism, great solidarity and national pride. In addition to preserving many valuable artifacts and antiques, this Relic also has a system of ancient trees, many of which are red-flowered rice trees dating back more than 500 years, which further enhances the ancient beauty of the Relic, attracting thousands of visitors every Tet and spring.  Every year, on January 16, the Tu Luong Xam Festival takes place, attracting tens of thousands of tourists and local people to attend. This is also the biggest Festival of Hai An district, the only Festival that makes most local people willing to put aside all personal and family worries for the Festival. In 2022, the Tu Luong Xam Festival was recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage. The unique features, different from village festivals, are the ceremonial ceremonies with the "Four Spiritual Tu" worship teams of Luong Xam and some relics worshiping Ngo Quyen in Hai An district to worship at Tu Luong Xam and the traditional procession with the participation of processions of villages with relics worshiping Ngo Quyen such as: Luong Xam, Xam Bo, Ha Lung, Ha Doan and the processions of wards and palanquin processions converging to worship in front of the "Tu Ca" gate of Tu Luong Xam - One of the "four sacred words" of ancient An Duong district and the "three sacred words" of Hai An district today, creating a large-scale ceremony towards the origin. This is a major cultural activity of Hai An district to widely propagate among the people about the background, career and gratitude for the great contributions of national hero Ngo Quyen for the historic Bach Dang victory and Tu Luong Xam relic - Ngo Quyen's headquarters in 938; Thereby, it aims to arouse national pride, promote traditional cultural values, love for the homeland, and encourage people from all walks of life to actively emulate and successfully complete the political, economic, cultural-social, security-defense tasks of the district in 2024. At the same time, it is an opportunity to promote, create consensus, mobilize resources, and determine to build the Tu Luong Xam National Historical and Cultural Relic, which is recognized as a Special National Relic. special./.
