CO LOA FESTIVAL – NATIONAL INTANGIBLE CULTURAL HERITAGE LIST Co Loa Festival, also known as "Bat Xa Ho Nhi" festival, Bat Xa Loa Thanh festival, is a type of traditional festival and has been included in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List in Decision No. 603/QD-BVHTTDL dated February 3, 2021 of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. With typical values, representing and expressing the identity, creativity and cultural diversity of the Bat Xa community, worshiping the Holy Ancestor Emperor An Duong is expressed through the practice of rituals and beliefs in the ceremony and festival. The central space for practicing the Co Loa festival is the Noi Citadel area of Co Loa commune, with a complex of architectural relics of temples, communal houses, temples, temples, places to worship King An Duong Vuong, My Chau, god Kim Quy, general Cao Lo and related figures. In particular, the "core" space of the festival is the Thuong temple area (worshiping the Holy Ancestor Emperor An Duong and those who have contributed to the people and the country) in Co Loa commune. The community of Bat Xa residents worshiping the Holy Ancestor Emperor An Duong (today is 8 villages in 3 communes: Co Loa, Uy No, Xuan Canh, including: Co Loa, Van Thuong, Mach Trang, San Gia, Ngoai Sat, Dai Bi, Cau Ca, Thu Cuu) is the cultural subject - the creative subject, practicing the Co Loa festival. In which, the Co Loa village community (including 12 hamlets: Nhoi Upper, Nhoi Below, Lan Tri, Ga, Dong, Vang, Huong, Thuong, Bai, Cho, Chua, Mit) plays the main role in running the rituals and festival performances. The festival is held on the 5th - 6th of January every year (the 6th of January is the main festival). Co Loa Festival is on a large scale, with close coordination between the City's state management agencies, Thang Long - Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center, Co Loa Relics Management Board, District Party Committee - Dong Anh District People's Committee, Party Committee - Co Loa Commune People's Committee, district and commune authorities, communities in villages and hamlets that practice the festival and become an important and large festival of the Capital and the whole country. One Pillar Pagoda was started construction in the year Ky Suu 1049, under the reign of King Ly Thai Tong. According to folk legend, in a dream, King Ly Thai Tong dreamed of Guan Yin Buddha sitting on a lotus, radiating light and inviting the king to come with him. When the king woke up from his dream, he immediately told his servant. Monk Thien Tue advised the king to build a pagoda on a stone pillar just like in his dream, making a lotus throne for the Buddha to sit on. In history books, it is recorded that at the current location of the One Pillar Pagoda, there is a stone pillar above which there is a jade pagoda. In the jade pavilion, there is a statue of Guan Yin Buddha that was built in a square lake. The king often came here to chant Buddhist scriptures and pray. Later, the next prince repaired the pagoda and built a pagoda next to it 10 meters to the southwest. This cluster of relics was named Dien Huu Tu with the hope of "long-lasting blessings". In 1105, King Ly Nhan Tong repaired the pagoda and built two white porcelain-roofed towers in front of the yard. In 1108, Nguyen Phi Y Lan ordered someone to cast a large bell and named it "General Enlightenment" with the meaning of awakening the hearts of the world. During the war against the French, the One Pillar Pagoda was mined and destroyed by the French expeditionary force. In 1955, Hanoi's One Pillar Pagoda was restored and preserved until now.
