Bustling Cotton Bracing Festival in Son Dong On the 6th day of the second lunar month, in Son Dong village (Hoai Duc district, Hanoi city), the Cotton Festival takes place. Hundreds of young men in the village participated in winning cotton plants with the hope of good luck in the new year. According to the elders of Son Dong village, the Cotton Bracing festival has existed since the founding of the village. Legend has it that those who win the cotton plant will receive good luck. This legend is associated with the time of the Trung Sisters in the 40s AD. Whoever steals the cotton plant (or touches it) will give birth to a noble son. Therefore, every festival, young people in the village want to win the cotton tree. This is also considered an indispensable part of the festival. The custom of pulling cotton in Son Dong village is also associated with the meaning of physical training, so only young men who are healthy enough can participate in this part of the festival. Women, children and elders will go to high mounds to watch and cheer. According to custom, in the early afternoon of the 6th day of the second lunar month, after performing the sacrificial rituals, the village priest performed the custom of tossing sticky rice, with the meaning of motivating, encouraging and enhancing the health of ancient soldiers. The celebrant brought the cotton tree out of the shrine and danced a few times in the middle of the courtyard. This cotton tree was selected by the villagers from the best bamboo, then cut into a 1.2m long piece and meticulously sharpened. After dancing, the celebrant will toss the cotton tree up for the young men in the village to grab. According to the ritual, two cotton plants will be brought to the communal house for young people to grab. The competition for the cotton tree lasted about an hour, until the winner raised the cotton tree high. The cotton fighting will end in the applause, cheers, and joy of the villagers. The person who wins the cotton tree will bring the "trophy" home and place it on the family altar to report their achievements to their ancestors.

One Pillar Pagoda

One Pillar Pagoda was started construction in the year Ky Suu 1049, under the reign of King Ly Thai Tong. According to folk legend, in a dream, King Ly Thai Tong dreamed of Guan Yin Buddha sitting on a lotus, radiating light and inviting the king to come with him. When the king woke up from his dream, he immediately told his servant. Monk Thien Tue advised the king to build a pagoda on a stone pillar just like in his dream, making a lotus throne for the Buddha to sit on. In history books, it is recorded that at the current location of the One Pillar Pagoda, there is a stone pillar above which there is a jade pagoda. In the jade pavilion, there is a statue of Guan Yin Buddha that was built in a square lake. The king often came here to chant Buddhist scriptures and pray. Later, the next prince repaired the pagoda and built a pagoda next to it 10 meters to the southwest. This cluster of relics was named Dien Huu Tu with the hope of "long-lasting blessings". In 1105, King Ly Nhan Tong repaired the pagoda and built two white porcelain-roofed towers in front of the yard. In 1108, Nguyen Phi Y Lan ordered someone to cast a large bell and named it "General Enlightenment" with the meaning of awakening the hearts of the world. During the war against the French, the One Pillar Pagoda was mined and destroyed by the French expeditionary force. Imperial Citadel of Thang Long
