Vong communal house festival

Khuong Dinh Ward, Hanoi

Vong communal house festival - National intangible cultural heritage The Vong Communal House Festival is recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage, which is both a source of pride and a responsibility for preserving and promoting it. This is also an opportunity for each person, especially the younger generation, to look towards the good values of their ancestors, continue the tradition and arouse the desire to contribute and build an increasingly rich and beautiful homeland. Traditional festivals not only preserve cultural values, history and customs of the nation, but are also a place to connect the community with its roots. Vong Communal House, built around the 15th-16th centuries in Ke Moc land, on the To Lich river, used to be the administrative and cultural center of the village during feudal times. This place is not only a meeting place, resolving administrative and judicial issues, allocating taxes and dividing public fields among the clans and clans, but also a place to process lawsuits, make village conventions and rules, and organize annual festivals. During the resistance period, Dinh Vong also became a base for revolutionary activities and is now the place to send off children of Ha Dinh village who join the army every year. Vong Communal House also preserves many precious relics from the Le Trung Hung and Nguyen dynasties, including 8 ordinations from 1847 to 1924, a palanquin, a system of stone steles, bronze urns, bronze bells cast in 1882, stone statues, incense bowls, porcelain jars, water hyacinths... Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Khuong Dinh ward, Hanoi said: "The atmosphere of the old days is recreated in the games: duck throwing, sack jumping, tug of war and stalls. The younger generation will understand that these are historical features that need to keep the tradition in Vong village." The Vong communal house festival has existed for a long time, going through many dynasties, and is held every year on the 2nd day of the second lunar month to commemorate the village's Thanh Hoang, ancestors of families who have contributed to the homeland, and at the same time educate children and grandchildren in the tradition of "drinking water, remembering the source." The festival is not only a purely religious activity but also a living symbol of gratitude to ancestors, appreciation of the past and the spirit of community cohesion, while honoring the homeland's studious tradition. The combination of patriotism, community awareness, gratitude to ancestors and the desire to rise through knowledge has created the historical depth of the festival, turning the Vong Communal House Festival into a lasting symbol of local identity in the process of preserving and developing national cultural heritage. In recent years, the government and the community have always strived to protect, preserve and promote the value of the festival. Festival transmission and practice activities are currently maintained relatively well by the community. However, the urbanization process is posing challenges, affecting the protection and promotion of heritage values. Therefore, all levels, sectors and communities holding heritage need to be clearly aware of their roles and responsibilities to effectively preserve and promote the precious value of the Vong Communal House Festival.
