Ong Bon Temple Festival

Ong Bon Pagoda, Quarter 7, Chanh Nghia Ward, Thu Dau Mot City

Ong Bon Temple Festival Ong Bon Temple Festival holds two worship periods every year, in the spring on the 2nd day of the first lunar month and in the fall on the 4th day of the 7th lunar month. Ong Bon Temple Festival is full of gratitude and gratitude to saints, remembering one's roots, respecting the place of immigration and praying for ancestors to bless one's career. The Ong Temple Festival is closely associated with those who work in the oven, they value the place of immigration, they build a pagoda named after the earth god (Ong Bon) in general and worship the saints who bless their profession. For Chinese people, Ong Bon means "Ancestor", "Bon" means root. Mr. Bon is just a symbol, not a specific character. Most Chinese people believe that "Mr. Bon" is "Phuoc Duc Chanh Than". However, each Chinese state has its own concepts and beliefs about Ong Bon. The Chinese (of Fujian origin) in Cho Lon were concretized as Chau Dat Quan - a mandarin of the Yuan Dynasty. The Chinese people of Chaozhou and Hainan origin in the Southwest region were concretized as Three Jewels Eunuch Trinh Hoa - People of the Ming Dynasty. The Chaozhou people (in Hoi An) concretized it as Phuc Ba General Ma Vien. The Cantonese people in Cho Lon consider their Mr. Bon to be the Earth God... but the Chinese people of the Vuong family of Fujian origin in Binh Duong believe that their Mr. Bon is Huyen Thien Thuong De and the Ly family (of Chaozhou origin) consider their Mr. Bon to be the Ly family's ancestor. Huyen Thien Thuong De is a deity created by God, also known as Chon Vo (Chan Vu). Tran Vu is the god of Wudang Mountain. Besides the Huyen Thien God, the Vuong family also worships: Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva (Fujian people worship many gods), Crown Prince Na Tra, Southern Dynasty Great Emperor. The Vuong family worships the above gods, while the Ly family in Binh Duong worships Ong Bon, the ancestor of the families: Luc, Chu, Quach, Tieu, Trieu, Ly and Chau. This is also the symbol. They also worship Phuoc Duc Chanh god, whom they call Ong Dia, meaning the local land god. We can mention the palaces worshiping Mr. Bon of the Vuong family in Binh Duong such as: Phuoc Vo Dien - Chanh Nghia ward, Thu Dau Mot (built in 1885); Ngoc Hu Cung - Lai Thieu town (built around 1971); Phuoc Tho Duong - Hung Dinh commune, Thuan An; Phuoc Nghia Duong - Tan Phuoc Khanh, Tan Uyen. The Ly family has a temple to worship Ong Bon, Phuoc An Mieu in Chanh Nghia, Thu Dau Mot (built in 1980). This temple was built by the Ly family, in addition to worshiping the ancestors of the seven families as above, it is also from the Ly family's street, so it is also called Ly Thi Gia Mieu. Just like Vietnamese temples and shrines, Ong Bon's shrines all integrate multiple gods such as Truong Thien Su (Truong Dao Lang - Han Dynasty), Bao Cong (Song Dynasty), Canh Chu Ton Vuong, Linh Tu Ton Vuong, Cuu Thien Huyen Nu... According to Chinese religious customs, the gods Huyen Thien Thuong De, Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara, Crown Prince Na Tra and Southern Trieu Dai De are not worshiped permanently in one locality but are rotated at shrines in Thu Dau Mot, Bung, Lai Thieu, Tan Phuoc Khanh to be worshiped for one year and the festival is held on February 25. And so, according to custom, there must be a festival every four years. Festivals at temples and shrines worshiping Ong Bon in Binh Duong carry the content of worshiping the ancestors of the pottery industry, focusing mainly on Chinese people in the locality and other places. This festival of the Chinese people in Binh Duong also has the nature of believing in good fortune, protecting the lives and businesses of the Chinese community in Binh Duong. The festival program includes Taoist worship rituals performed by professional shamans. Next is the palanquin procession of the gods, lasting all night for dozens of kilometers surrounding the residential area, the atmosphere is extremely jubilant, bustling and majestic. During the festival, there are also Ho Quang singing, tickle dancing, lion and dragon dancing, especially the huu dance that attracts a large number of viewers. It can be said that although Ong Bon Temple Festival in Binh Duong is a festival characterized by a different family, profession, and state, it has attracted a community of Chinese and Vietnamese residents to participate and become important festivals of the year, in the spiritual life of Chinese people in Binh Duong in general and Vietnamese people in particular./.
