Princess Huyen Tran Temple Festival

Huyen Tran Cultural Center - 151 Thien Thai, An Tay ward, Hue city

Princess Huyen Tran Temple Festival Princess Huyen Tran Temple Festival is a cultural activity with the meaning of gratitude, recognition and commemoration of Princess Huyen Tran - who has contributed to the country in expanding the nation's territory, country and wealth to the south (now the southern lands of Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue). On the ninth day of the first month (lunar calendar) every year, on the day of her death, Thua Thien Hue province organizes the Princess Huyen Tran Temple Festival on Ngu Phong Mountain (now Huyen Tran Cultural Center - 151 Thien Thai, An Tay Ward, Hue City). During the second resistance war against the Mongols in 1285, the two dynasties of Dai Viet and Champa stood side by side on the front line against the common enemy. The close alliance made Emperor Tran Nhan Tong, during his trip to Champa in 1301, promise to marry his youngest princess, Princess Huyen Tran, to a young neighboring king with great ambitions. At that time, Huyen Tran was about 14 years old. Five years later, when Huyen Tran had grown up, the embassy went to the capital to ask for a bride price. The Dai Viet court was confused, in the end King Anh Tong fulfilled the king's promise, and Princess Huyen Tran sacrificed her personal love for the people and accepted to marry Che Man. The embassy offered a generous bride price from two continents, O and Ly (present-day Thuan Hoa - Phu Xuan - Thua Thien Hue) and brought the princess back to Vijaya. In July 1306, the fleet crossed the sea to the South. Arriving at O Long gate, the group of boats stopped to rest. Moved by his sister's marriage, King Anh Tong changed the name of this estuary to Tu Dung Hai Mon, to express his feelings and remind future generations to forever remember the great sacrifice of the Vietnamese princess. The following dynasties all ordained her as the protector of the country. The King of the Nguyen Dynasty issued a decree to repay the princess's gratitude for "keeping the country and helping the people, having many blessings", and elevated her to the rank of "Trai Tinh Trung Dang Than". To remember the Princess's merits, the Nguyen Dynasty established the Dai De Vuong Temple in Lich Doi village, Duc ward, Hue city, to worship the founding fathers, including Princess Huyen Tran. Unfortunately, this temple no longer exists today. By early 2006, Huyen Tran Cultural Center was started construction. One year later, on March 26, 2007, the project was inaugurated on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of Thuan Hoa - Phu Xuan. Princess Huyen Tran Temple Festival is held annually on January 9 - the death anniversary of Princess Huyen Tran, with the meaning of gratitude for her merits for the development of Dai Viet. Hue people have a saying "three days of Tet, seven days of spring" to talk about the most leisurely time of the year: January. Along with festivals such as: Gia Vien village fairy swing festival (January 4), Thu Le village wrestling (January 6), Sinh village wrestling (January 10)... Princess Huyen Tran temple festival is not only an opportunity to "admire ancestors" with the moral "when drinking water, remember the source", the festival also has spiritual significance for the people of the ancient capital of Hue, praying for all the best for everyone in the new year, through Thereby, contributing to promoting to tourists and people from all over the world a land rich in cultural identity and a city of Hue - ASEAN Cultural City, typical Festival city of Vietnam.
