Na Nhem Festival

Na Nhem Festival

Tran Yen, Bac Son, Lang Son

Na Nhem Festival - National Intangible Cultural Heritage Na Nhem Festival is held on the full moon day of January every year with rituals and ceremonies to worship King Mieu Tinh, King Cao Quyet, Saint Cao Son - King Quy Minh, wishing the kings and gods to bless everyone with good health, good harvests, and full livestock. Associated with these legends are stories of fighting the enemy to defend the village and cultural activities, games, and performances of the Tay people, Tran Yen commune, Bac Son district. Previously, Na Nhem festival was held every 3 years, but from 2012 until now, the festival has been maintained once a year. In their memories, Mr. Hoang Thanh Tien, Pa Tri village, Hoang Van An, and Mr. Be Van Ung, Lang Mo village, Tran Yen commune... remember when they were teenagers and participated in the festival, playing the role of soldiers and buffalo herders in the military procession. Along with collected documents, today's festival has basically been restored to the same content as the old traditional festival. The special thing about the Na Nhem festival is that the attendees have to smear their faces with black paint to represent the appearance of the Tai Ngan invaders when they were still alive. Because they believe that doing so will distract the enemy ghosts and no ghost will know who reenacted their defeat in front of the villagers and come back to capture them, causing disasters and epidemics. Na Nhem Festival is held from dawn until dusk. Right from early morning, rituals of worship, sacrifice, and water procession from the temple worshiping King Mieu Tinh at Bo Van water mine to Mo village communal house; The worshiping rituals at Mo village communal house (worshiping King Cao Quyet "Uy Linh Tinh Khue" and Xa Vun temple (worshiping Saints Cao Son and Quy Minh) are strictly performed by monks and monks. People who go to the Na Nhem festival for the first time cannot help but be surprised by the rituals of the dragon throne procession, the altar tablets and the program of playing scimitars, swords and mascots. The bow and arrow mascots are not sticky rice, chickens, or pigs, but similar and more unique plants, including Tang Thinh - Moon Face - mascots that produce food energy. Coming to the festival, visitors can also enjoy the games of actors - farmers - workers - merchants, fishermen - farmers - cultivating - rotting (picking brides, picking grooms) and traditional sports such as blindfolded goat catching, swinging, tug of war, pushing sticks, Chinese chess... Before the end of the festival is the performance of God's Thunder of the generals, bestowing peace, prosperity, and prosperity to everyone. Na Nhem Festival has many historical values of the ethnic community, the history of ethnic residence, the history of professions, customs, games, performances and rituals... all as a result of cultural interference between regions throughout the country. The festival is a comprehensive cultural activity that not only contains traditional cultural values but through those activities educates traditions and transfers to the next generations the quintessence of the community and the nation. The most prominent feature is also the most typical cultural feature which is community and ethnic community cohesion. Community cohesion is also shown in the relationship between people in the village and commune who are linked together due to the common belief of worshiping Thanh Hoang and Than Nong and according to the folk beliefs of the Tay - Nung people here, those gods are supernatural forces and the highest power, grasping destiny and protecting the entire village community. This year, the Na Nhem festival was chosen by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism as the province's highlight festival. Through the festival, we aim to promote, preserve and promote the cultural traditions of our homeland; creating conditions for people of all walks of life to have opportunities to exchange and create cultural forms, contributing to maintaining and developing an advanced Vietnamese culture rich in national identity.
