Lang Son: Nang Hai Festival Usually held on the 4th day of the second lunar month every year in Na Cao village, Chi Minh commune to pray to the fairies to bless a year of good weather, good harvests, and a peaceful life. There are many legends about Nang Hai festival, but the following legend is considered the most typical. The story goes: "Once upon a time, in the Na Cao mountain area, there was a drought, the corn and rice crop failed, and the trees were dry. The villagers gathered together to pray to God to help the people escape the drought. Faced with that situation, God sent 7 fairies on the moon to bless the rain and wind, teaching the villagers how to cut fields to plant wet rice, grow cotton to get fiber to weave cloth, grow mulberries, raise silkworms, spin silk, and weave silk,... In addition, the fairies also taught the boys and girls to sing songs of the heart. After completing the task, the 7 fairies said goodbye to the moon, and the villagers mourned them farewell. Therefore, on the 4th day of the 2nd lunar month every year, the villagers held a ceremony to welcome the Fairy (also known as Nang Hai - the Moon Fairy), and on the 18th day of the 3rd lunar month, they held a ceremony to send her back to heaven. The ceremony to welcome Nang Hai was held at the Earth Cong temple in Na Cao village. Among the 6 girls selected to play the roles of fairies, 2 are the first mother and the second mother, and the remaining 4 specialize in singing lullabies. In addition, the villagers also chose 4 boys called Hai Po to sing for the 4 Nang Hai at the stilt house next to the village, this is also the place where Mrs. Nhat and Mrs. Nhi come to burn incense every day and where Mrs. Then comes to teach the Nang Hai to sing luon. The farewell ceremony for Nang Hai was solemnly held with respectful rituals. Families in the village prepared a ceremony tray including black sticky rice, boiled chicken, and colorful dyed cakes mounted to symbolize the sun, moon, and stars. Mrs. Then, along with Mrs. Nhat, Mrs. Nhi and the Second Ladies, go to prepare the feast. If the dishes are lacking in ceremony, the Second Ladies will sing thanksgiving and relieve the trouble to heaven. After that, the Two Girls walked, scattered handfuls of cotton seeds, handfuls of rice, distributed mulberry branches,... and went to the river wharf to sing the words of launching boats on the river. At the end, Mrs. Then performed a ceremony to return the souls of the Hai Hai to heaven, calling back the souls of the women and sisters who played the role of the Hai Hai. The entire festival procession is associated with the smooth melodies of Luong songs. Nang Hai Festival attracts a large number of people from around the region to attend. They come to listen to the sweet lyrics of the song, follow the lyrics to the fairyland and wander through the four seasons of spring, summer, autumn, winter...
