Chin Gian Temple Festival

Chau Kim, Que Phong

Chin Gian Temple Festival - a place to preserve national cultural identity  Chin Gian Temple Festival is one of the largest traditional festivals of Thai people in Nghe An, held on the 15th day of the second lunar month every year in Chau Kim commune, Que Phong district. The Chin Gian Temple Festival was included in the List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage in Decision No. 2067/QD-BVHTTDL dated June 13, 2016 of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The festival is not only a place for local people to pray for a new year with good weather and good harvests, but also an opportunity to preserve and promote national cultural identity. Chin Gian Temple is a national historical relic, built in the 18th century on top of Pu Cho Nhang, in Khoang village, Chau Kim commune, Que Phong district. The temple worships God (worshiping Po Pha), worshiping the daughter of heaven (worshiping Nang Xi Da) and worshiping people who have contributed to building villages and muongs (worshiping Tao Lo ỻ). Chin Gian Temple Festival is held to commemorate the merits of the gods and express people's gratitude to those who have made the village public. Chin Gian Temple Festival is held from the 15th day of the second lunar month every year, usually lasting for 3 days, with many rich cultural activities and many unique rituals: buffalo bathing ceremony, buffalo donation ceremony and worshiping gods, palanquin procession,... The most unique feature of the Chin Gian temple festival is the buffalo sacrifice ceremony: according to custom, each village contributes a buffalo. The buffalo used in the buffalo sacrifice ceremony is a buffalo brought from Muong Ton (the main village in the nine villages here). At the ceremony, the master of the ceremony (ma'am) wears ceremonial clothes (rua and eraser) to perform the buffalo bathing ceremony right at the water wharf at the foot of Pu Quai mountain in front of everyone's witnesses. After bathing, the sacrificial buffalo is brought to the temple grounds with a solemn procession. The monk, dressed in a great outfit (xua eraser), walked three times around the buffalo that was tied tightly to a wooden stake. As he walked, he recited Xen in the Thai ethnic language with the content of praying for peace in "nine muong and ten villages". Followed by people with positions in society in the Muong. In addition to the solemn ceremony, festival attendees can immerse themselves in a cheerful and vibrant atmosphere with many attractive folk rituals and games such as: Thai people's custom of praying for rain, singing tam, chau, bamboo dancing, playing gongs, dancing gasoline khan... Chin Gian Temple Festival is a unique cultural beauty of Thai Nghe An people. The festival is not only a place for local people to pray for a new year with good weather and good harvests, but also an opportunity to preserve and promote national cultural identity. Today, Chin Gian Temple Festival is an attractive tourist destination for tourists from all over. Attending the festival is also an opportunity to experience the unique cultural features of the Thai people here.
