Monsignor Temple Festival

Monsignor Temple Festival Duc Ong Temple Festival (Dung Market Festival), is held on January 6 every year, at Duc Ong Temple located next to Dung lagoon, Tu Trung commune. The festival is held with the hope that people's lives will be prosperous and the harvest will be good that year. The temple worships famous generals during the reign of Ly Cao Tong in 1176 Nguyen Van Nhuong. He was instrumental in fighting the Ai Lao invaders, preserving the border and pacifying the rivers, and King Ly Cao Tong gave him many seals. When he died, the king built a mausoleum and established a temple to honor him with the title Dong Kinh Thong Phan Dai Vuong Thuong Dang and receive blessings according to national rituals. The temple is located on the banks of the Ky Giang River, now called "Dam Dung". All dynasties have conferred upon him the title of Great King of the Supreme Most Compassionate Level. The architecture of the temple is very beautiful, carved with many delicate patterns, on themes such as Dragon, Phoenix, Kim Nghi Long, hat and paper fan... extremely rich, it reflects the desire for a full and peaceful life of the people at that time, and also reflects the religious practices of the people. After the ceremony, it's time for the festival. Because the festival only takes place for one day, on the 6th, all the villagers, young and old, male and female, put aside all family work to gather at Rung market to have fun performing traditional games such as swinging, tug-of-war, wrestling, playing human chess, rowing boats, cooking rice for competitions, and catching trach in jars. They told each other that the game of catching fish in jars originated from here. People put each fish into a jar, each team participating in catching the fish has only two people, a boy and a girl, representing the belief in fertility. The boy puts his right arm around the girl's waist and the girl puts her left arm around the guy's waist. Together they bent down and put their other hand into the jar to catch the fish. The team that catches it faster wins. On the 7th, villagers held a death anniversary ceremony for Mr. Nguyen Van Nhuong. Mr. Nhuong's death anniversary was organized by the elderly and people in charge of the commune at Ong Temple. Afterwards, the villagers came to worship Mr. Nhuong to show gratitude and remember the patriotic son of the commune. And the death anniversary of Mr. Nguyen Van Nhuong has been maintained until now.
