Built in 1894 during the French colonial period, the project is one of the oldest water towers in Vietnam, associated with the process of forming Hanoi's modern water supply system at the end of the 19th century. The tower is built of rubble in a circular cylindrical architecture, about 19 m in diameter, consisting of 3 floors with a conical roof and a lightning rod at the top. For decades, Hang Dau Water Tower and Don Thuy Water Tower have played the role of providing clean water to the inner city area of ​​Hanoi.
