After passing his bachelor's degree at the age of 15, he became a mandarin under the reign of King Tu Duc, held the position of Minor Phu Su, and was appointed Tri of Kim Thanh district, Hai Duong province. During his career as a mandarin, he achieved the highest title of Ta Thi lang of Infantry.
