Tram Pagoda Festival

Tram Pagoda Festival

On Tram Mountain, Phung Chau, Chuong My, Hanoi

Tram Pagoda was built in the 16th century, founded by a monk general. The pagoda is named after the mountain on which it is based, "Tu Tram Mountain". Tram Pagoda is located not far from the center of Hanoi city, but has a peaceful spiritual breath, separate from the noise of the bustling capital. Coming to Tram Pagoda, visitors will encounter a charming water landscape as beautiful as a watercolor painting, with mountains hugging the river, small winding roads and rows of green ancient trees swaying to catch the wind.

In the past, the entire Tram mountain area was where King Le and Lord Trinh had their palaces. Tu Tram Mountain has Hang Pagoda built in Long Tien cave at the foot of Tu Tram Son with stone statues, epitaphs carved on the cave walls, stone drums, stone drums...; There is a very large Long Tien Dong cave and a Buddha altar inside. Here there is a road to the top of the mountain called the road to Heaven and a road to the deep cave called the road to Hell. Standing on the top of Tram mountain, you can see the entire panorama of So So land and nearby landscapes such as Vo Vi pagoda, Tram Gian pagoda...

The small, ancient Tram Pagoda once kept many memories of Uncle Ho. This place had the honor of welcoming Uncle Ho four times. The story is told that: in 1966, Uncle Ho returned to visit Tram pagoda, stood in front of the pagoda, saw people struggling to wade across Uncle Ho's canal to visit Tram pagoda in 1966. Uncle immediately asked the officials: "Let me ask you, which way should the people go first?". The official replied: "Sir, in the past, people used to walk in front of the temple door." He asked again: "Is it easier to go underwater or on land?" The officer replied: "Sir, traveling on foot is easy." Uncle immediately blamed: "Then why do you let the people carry the burden of wading in the water? It is not good for you to do the work of public transport."

Tram Pagoda is considered one of the four sacred pagodas belonging to the "four great landscapes of Doai", besides pagodas such as Tram Gian Pagoda, Thay Pagoda and Tay Phuong Pagoda. The pagoda bears the mark of typical spiritual and cultural architecture of the Northern Delta residents. Although Tram Pagoda is small, it has an ancient and profound beauty with its "sitting on mountains and water" posture, its back leaning against the mountain, its front overlooking an immense lotus lake, surrounded by dense, green forest canopy,...

As scheduled, every year on the second day of the second lunar month, people around the area and tourists come to attend the Tram Pagoda festival. People go to the ceremony to pray for favorable weather, good harvests, and a peaceful life. The ancient Tram Pagoda festival is rich in national culture with folk games: bamboo swings, water puppets, Chinese chess, fat pole climbing, wrestling, cock fighting...

People come to Tram Pagoda Festival to pray for good weather, good harvests, and a peaceful and prosperous life. What's special is that on this festival, the villagers organize a procession to process Uncle Ho's photo, recalling the past when Uncle Ho visited the pagoda four times. During weekends, hundreds of people also come to visit the temple. Tram Pagoda Festival is an important destination in Hanoi tourism, a cultural and historical destination that attracts more and more tourists from near and far.
