Essence of the North is a famous outdoor performance show, staged in the Thay Pagoda area, about 25 km from the center of Hanoi. This is one of Vietnam's first and typical real-life shows, recreating the cultural beauty, history and life of the Northern Delta through performing arts combined with natural space. Inspired by the life of Zen Master Tu Dao Hanh and the cultural values of Doai, the program takes the audience on a journey to discover traditional beauties through six performances: Poetry, Buddha's Land, Nostalgia, Music, Happiness and Festival. The large water stage combined with modern lighting and sound effects and the backdrop of mountains and ancient pagodas creates an emotional artistic space. One of the special features of Northern Essence is the participation of a large number of local people in performances alongside professional artists, contributing to bringing authentic, rustic and culturally rich performances. The show has won many domestic and international awards and records, including two Guinness Vietnam records for the largest water stage and the largest number of farmer actors. Northern Essence is also highly appreciated by many international organizations, becoming one of the unique art programs that visitors should not miss when coming to Hanoi. Not only is it an entertainment show, Essence of the North also contributes to promoting traditional culture, preserving heritage values and creating livelihoods for local people. With a harmonious combination of art, history and natural landscape, the program gives visitors profound experiences about the spirit and cultural identity of the North.
